Role scope
Join IS-Wireless as a 5G/6G System Architect and shape the architecture of next-generation mobile networks. You will define and evolve end-to-end system designs in line with 3GPP, O-RAN, ETSI and SCF standards, ensuring our products deliver high performance, openness, and interoperability. This is a strategic, hands-on role focused on developing multi-thread real-time/embedded systems that operate in virtualized environments (Kubernetes, Docker) to ensure critical connectivity. Perfect for an engineer who wants to lead innovation in telecom architecture through both design and implementation.
Responsibilities
Define system architecture for 5G/6G RAN and Core, aligned with 3GPP, O-RAN Alliance, ETSI NFV and SCF FAPI/nFAPI specifications.
Develop and implement multi-thread real-time/embedded systems with proficiency in design, documentation, implementation and unit tests.
Build system architecture as software programs that operate in virtualized environments (Kubernetes, Docker) ensuring critical connectivity and high availability.
Design and implement E2E Network/System Architecture in Open RAN based model with detailed recommendations for 3GPP and O-RAN features.
Create end-to-end technical blueprints covering RAN functional splits, control/user plane separation, and cloud-native deployments.
Guide engineering teams in implementing scalable, secure, and performant network functions (DU, CU, RIC, Core).
Provide technical support for cross-functional teams implementing the features and define integration, verification, and validation strategies.
Perform system-level performance analysis, capacity planning, and design optimizations.
Ensure architectural compliance with open interfaces (O-RAN fronthaul, midhaul, backhaul) and interop with multi-vendor ecosystems.
Contribute to standardization efforts and track emerging features in Release 17/18/19+ and pre-standard 6G work.
Requirements
Strong C/C++ programming background and debugging skills for hands-on implementation work.
Very strong knowledge about multi-thread real-time/embedded systems and proficiency in design, documentation, implementation and unit tests.
In-depth experience with disaggregated and cloud-native RAN implementation architecture.
Familiarity with ETSI NFV framework, MANO, and cloud-native orchestration (Kubernetes, CNF design).
Deep knowledge of 3GPP specifications for 5G NR and Core (R15–R18, early 6G) and O-RAN standards.
Strong understanding of O-RAN architecture, interfaces (OFH CUPS Planes, F1, E1, E2, A1, O1, O2), and RIC functions.
Proven experience in designing large-scale telecom systems (RAN, Core, OSS/BSS or SMO integration).
Familiarity with version control, bug tracking, and CI/CD systems.
Understanding of security, reliability, and QoS in telecom-grade deployments.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams.
Very good English (spoken/written)
Additional Advantages
Working experience with protocol stack splits (split 7.2x O-RU / O-DU, split 2 O-DU / O-CU).
Knowledge of AI/ML integration into RAN (near-/non-real-time RIC use cases).
Experience with edge computing, network slicing, and private 5G/6G solutions.
Contributions to standardization bodies or open-source communities.
